BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are investigating the death of a 21-month-old child who is believed to have died under suspicious circumstances.

Information reaching this publication indicates that a toddler, Dianca Hendricks, of St. Paul’s Village was pronounced dead by Dr. Vance Gilbert at the Pogson Medical Center in the afternoon of Friday, March 25, 2011.

It was revealed that the toddler’s mother, Xavier Hendricks, had left the child and her three-year-old brother in the care of their older sister (13) when she had left the home for work on the day in question.

SKNVibes learnt that the older sister had placed the children in one of the rooms within the house while she was completing a chore in the kitchen. However, on her return to the room, she observed that her sister was not breathing.

It is reported that the 13-year-old immediately rushed the child to the Pogson Medical Center in Sandy Point where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Resident Pathologist Dr. Adrian Nunez performed an autopsy on the infant’s body on Monday, March 28 and found that death was due to severe cerebral edema and acute subdural haematoma, which were explained as swelling of the brain and rupture of the liver, respectively.
