BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis last night (Apr. 6) recorded its sixth homicide for the year with the shooting death of popular disc jockey Jamie Williams.

Williams, the son of Commissioner of Police Austin Williams and Laura Williams of Bay View Gardens, was shot multiple times to the body while in an abandoned yard in Buckley’s Estate shortly after 9:00 p.m.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, at approximately 9:20 p.m., police received reports of a shooting in Buckley’s Estate and officers from various departments immediately responded.

ACP Queeley stated that on the officers’ arrival at the scene, investigations revealed that Williams was in an abandoned yard with a group of individuals when an unknown gunman appeared and opened fire on the 27-year-old, hitting him multiple times to the body.

He was pronounced dead by the District Medical Officer who was summoned to the scene.

Queeley also stated that no suspect was in custody but the police would be seeking a number of persons of interest.

The ACP, on behalf of the High Command of the Royal St. Christopher, expressed sincere condolences to the Commissioner of Police and his wife. He declared that this matter would be thoroughly investigated and the police would do everything within their power to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Queeley informed that Commissioner Williams was not in the Federation and efforts to contact him at the time were futile.

Asked how the police are feeling with regards to three homicides in just a matter of four days, ACP Queeley said, “Police are very troubled by the three homicides and we will use all available resources to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Williams has been the sixth person killed for the year, with the most recent being 26-year-old Bijorn ‘Bush’ Richardson of Wellington Road. He was shot to death on the basketball court in Dorset Park, Soho Village, Basseterre on Monday, April 4.

Less than 18 hours before Richardson’s death, the partly nude body of 15-year-old Unique Browne was discovered lying on the eastern side of the building that houses Eustace Hobson & Associates in the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site area.

The first shooting death recorded for the year was that of Devon Morton of Upper Monkey Hill, St. Peters, who died at the JNF Hospital 15 days after he was shot by two masked gunmen in Mc Knight on Monday, January 10.

He was followed by Sean ‘Tegroman’ Brazier (38) of Pitcairn Street, Newtown, who was shot multiple times to the body sometime after 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5; while the third one Quincy Liburd (29) of Newcastle, Nevis, who was also shot multiple times to the body in Conaree on Sunday, March 13.

All of these matters are still under police investigation.
