JLP Celebrates

Students at JLP
By: Curtis Morton, Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, April 8th 2011 - The students, Teachers, Coaches and some parents at the Joycelyn Liburd School, started the day with prayer and singing choruses of praise to God, one day after defending the title of undisputed Kings of the track in terms of athletic supremacy within the Primary Schools on Nevis.

“We thank God because it is only because of him that we won”, exclaimed Head mistress Marion Lescott. “We trained but we prayed too….we really prayed”, she continued.

Shortly thereafter, the sounds of a screeching horn pierced the air. It was Coach Kurvin Wallace driving his pick up into the school yard, blowing his horn in motorcade style. He then appeared on the lawn—the assembly area with the two huge trophies, the winnings of the previous day—and the children reacted. They surrounded him with shouts of joy.

“When I say JL you say PS”, said the happy Coach. “JL” he said. “PS” responded the children.

“When I say We got it—you say Yes—We got it”, he stated.  “Yes’ shouted the students enthusiastically.

Both Headmistress Lescott and Coach Wallace addressed the gathering.  Both thanked God for the victory and both were high in praise for main sponsor of the school, TDC.

The two of them also thanked all of the persons who helped with the training of the athletes, the athletes themselves, the parents, sponsors and any and everyone who assisted in any way, to make the victory a reality.

The celebrations then stepped into another gear when the brand new release from Corey Tyson’s Core band was played.

The students kicked up their heels to the strains of “Ley me see the purple”.  They seemed to have virtually learnt the song since its recent release. It was one thing to see the children but no one would have known that Headmistress Lescott and Deputy Barbara Hendrickson could ‘get on bad’ too.  Both waved flags and danced with gusto.

The cheer leading team then performed their well rehearsed item from the stage and the celebrations climaxed with Coach Wallace leading all and sundry around the lawn in Congo line style, again to the strains of the Core band.

It is understood that a motorcade and party will be the next items on the agenda.  Dates to be announced.
