BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ANOTHER firearm was recently removed off the Federation’s streets and the alleged owner is in police custody, charged with a number of offences including possession of illegal drugs.

Leon ‘Dance’ Isaac (29) of Conaree Village was on Wednesday (Apr. 6) charged with possession of a firearm, possession of nine rounds of ammunition, possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

According to the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson, between 5 and 8 a.m. on Wednesday (Apr. 6), members of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Special services Unit had conducted a number of operations in the Conaree Village area in search of illegal firearms, ammunition, controlled drugs and stolen property.

“A number of search warrants were executed on various houses including that of Leon Isaac, formerly of Cayon. During the search, portions of cannabis and a number of growing plants of the illegal drug were found on Isaac’s property.

“Also during the search operations, one .44 round of ammunition and one .40 Smith and Wesson pistol with eight matching rounds of ammunition were also found. Isaac was formally arrested and charged for the offences,” Henderson said.

Inspector Henderson also stated that during the search operations a number of items, suspected to be stolen, were collected and taken into police custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, information reaching this publication indicated that a number of individuals, including females, were in custody on Wednesday assisting police with their investigation into the death of 15-year-old Unique Browne.

This find brings to five the total amount of illegal firearms removed from the streets of the Federation for the year. In 2010 police had removed 45 of them off the streets – 11 in Nevis and 34 in St. Kitts.

However, when asked by SKNVibes if the information was authentic, Henderson admitted to the individuals being apprehended but declared that they were not only questioned on the issue of Browne’s death, but also of those recently killed.
