Newly installed President of the Nevis Lions Club, Mr. Huey Sargeant |
Charlestown, Nevis (August 25, 2006) The Nevis Lions Club on Thursday August 24th installed its 35th Board of Directors at a ceremony held at the Mingles Restaurant and Bar in Cades Bay.
Leading the new Board is Mr Huey Sargeant, at 29 he is the youngest person ever to be installed as President in the Club's 35 year history. Lion Huey replaced Lion George Morris who served the 2005 - 2006 Lionistic year
The Nevis LIONS Club having being chartered in February 1971, the club has observed the motto for LIONS International which is "We Serve".
LIONS have had an active role in the Nevisian community; provided assistance to the less fortunate, persons in need of specialised health care, have organised discussions on topical social issues and have undertaken community projects.

The Nevis LEO Club board which is a youth club sponsored by the Nevis LIONS Club was also installed. The club will be led for a second consecutive term by Leo Philicia Walters.

In addition Lion Huey noted, "these are serious times and we need serious people to carryout the mandate of LIONS and our community".
Featured Speaker for the evening was business man Morrice Tyrell, who gave a motivational presentation on the importance of service to both our community and humanity.
The Lionistic year began in July and ends in June of 2007.
