Delta tank overturns on West Basseterre By-Pass Road

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Delta Petroleum Limited tank filled with some 5 000 US-gallons of diesel, which was being towed by a truck (P 9690), overturned today (Apr. 14) at the roundabout in the vicinity of the RLB International Airport.

When SKNVibes arrived on the scene, sections of the roadway were covered with diesel and the tank was on its side, partially on the sidewalk.

Members of the Fire and Rescue Services were also present at the scene on standby.

According to Joseph Esdaille, Island Manager of Delta Petroleum Limited, the tank was on its way from Nevis to the company’s gas station at Camps Village, but he could not say what caused it to overturn.

Esdaille said he is thankful that no other vehicle was travelling immediately behind the truck and that no one was on the sidewalk at the time.

One eyewitness said she had observed the entire incident and noted that “the truck came round the corner hard, and he had up a speed. To me he was driving way too fast and the tank just fell over, then I saw him jump out saying ‘me f…..me f…..’” the young lady said.

A crane arrived and, with the assistance of a number of individuals, placed the tank back on its wheels. It was then towed to its destination by another truck.
