Guyana’s junior netball coach killed in traffic accident

    GEORGETOWN, Guyana – JUST four days after winging out of St. Kitts, Shondel Samaroo, Manager of Guyana’s team that competed in the recently held Jean Pierre Caribbean Under-16 Netball Tournament, died yesterday morning (Apr. 19) following a traffic accident.

     

     

     

    According to Kaieteur News, the 34-year-old mother of two, who was residing at 32 Public Road, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, died on the spot after her motorcycle collided with a minibus on Mandela Avenue, in the vicinity of the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown.

     

     

     

    A release from the police stated that the minibus and Samaroo were proceeding in the same direction when she lost control of her motorcycle and ended up in the path of the vehicle.

     

     

     

    The incident occurred at around 4:00 a.m.

     

    Kaieteur News also stated that eyewitnesses to the accident assisted in getting the young woman to the hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead.

     

     

     

    Samaroo, the only daughter of her family, was an employee of the Bank of Guyana and Secretary of the Guyana Netball Association, as well as coach of a popular netball club in the South American country called ‘Eagles Netball Group’.

     

     

     

    She was an ardent lover of netball and had received numerous medals in her pursuit.

     

     

     

    In addition to her two children, Shondel Samaroo leaves to mourn her father and four brothers.
