LIAT Press Release

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, April 20, 2011 – LIAT wishes to advise that several Antigua-based ground staff walked off the job this morning. These workers have since returned to work following talks between the Company’s management and the Union which represents them. The airline’s flight schedule was not affected by the temporary work stoppage.

Chief Executive Officer Brian Challenger said LIAT had not been notified of the issues prior to the work stoppage, noting that the union had failed to give the required seven days’ notice before embarking on industrial action.

Mr. Challenger noted that LIAT’s management remains committed to a fair and equitable working relationship with all employee groups. He said that the present regional and international economic situation, as well as escalating fuel prices, presented severe financial challenges to LIAT and called on all employees to act in a responsible manner. He stated that grievance procedures are in existence throughout the Company and should be utilized in order to air and resolve outstanding issues.
