    On Sunday 27th August 2006, at the site of Queenie's Well St. Paul's eight young persons were honoured by the Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association for being exemplars in scholarship, leadership and service. The awardees were Legacy Award Winners Mr. Francil Morris, a teacher at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School and Ms. Gloria Esdaille, Human Resource Manager at the St. Kitts Air and Seaports Authority. Inducted into the honour society were Mr. Pierre Liburd, Mr. Konris Maynard, Mr. Von Michael Martin, Ms. Michelaena Mills, Ms. Diana Williams and Ms. Janelle Powell.

     

     

     

    Ms. Johanna Marsham and Mr. Nigel Browne chaired the programme. Father Derek Sawyer and Mr. Evan Parry did a joint invocation.  The group One Voice sang the national anthem. Ms. Jacqueline Bryan read the history of the organization. Awardees gave a 3-5 minute speech on issue affecting society and tell how he or she has or intends to alleviate the problem.  Awardees spoke on issues from creativity, self-esteem, crime, electoral reform, society's role in development and education.

     

     

     

    Mr. Von Michael Martin was not on hand to receive his award, as he had already returned to University in London but his father Mr. Michael Martin received the award on his behalf. Von's speech presentation was done via a computer recording, which was aired at the ceremony.

     

     

     

    ~~Adz:Right~~ Prime Minister Denzil L. Douglas did the feature address. Prime Minister Douglas applauded the awardees on their achievement. He said that on listening to the speeches he is more than assured that the future of St. Kitts and Nevis is in good hands. He took the opportunity as well to challenge the participants to take up the mantle on the HIV/AIDS issue. Ms. Teslyn Simmonds, did the representation of symbols. The awardees were honoured with a pin, honour cord, flag and plaque. Presentations were done by the Prime Minister Douglas, Dr. David Doyle, Honorary Counsel and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Dr. David Doyle, as well as Mrs. Celia Christopher and Mr. Austin Weekes.

     

     

     

    Present at the Awards were the Honourable Shawn Richards, Permanent Secretaries Dr. Hermia Morton Anthony and Torfreda Rochester and Mr. Antonio Maynard UNESCO Secretary General St. Kitts and Nevis National Commission. Mr. William Hodge past principal of the Sandy Point High School was also on hand to witness the ceremony as two of the awardees ms. Gloria Esdaille and Pierre Liburd paid homage to him for their accomplishments.
