Launch of St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority BEST IN CLASS quiz competition

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, May 4th 2011 - Management of The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority has embarked upon a multi-faceted strategy as part of its efforts to transform the organization. On the heels of the staff restructuring and debt re-financing initiatives, the organization is now launching its first ever SCASPA Best in Class Quiz Competition. This competition’s inaugural round was held on Thursday 28th April, 2011 at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

     


    According to Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Terrence Crossman, “SCASPA is interested in sustaining academic excellence in our Federation and this competition will help strengthen students’ general knowledge in the curriculum subject areas and generate a greater understanding of SCASPA’s role to National Development. The Best in Class quiz competition promises to be a very high quality event held under the Authority’s auspices.”

     


    Six excellent teams from Third Form of the Washington Archibald High School, Basseterre High School, Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Cayon High School, Charles E. Mills Secondary School and the Verchild’s High Schools participated in the competition, each team consisting of two students. Akila Moore and Candice Greene represented the Washington Archibald High School, Jamalje Bassue and Sheyjona Bass represented the Basseterre High School, Maliq Douglas and Marle Grant represented the Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Stervernia Small and Walton Tyson represented the Cayon High School, Zonique Browne and Tehya Fleming represented the Charles E. Mills Secondary School and Deniqua Webster and K-Resha Browne represented the Verchild’s High School.

     


    The Competition was divided into four rounds (individual, speed, team, wild) and was based on subject areas of English, Mathematics, Literature, Integrated Science, Local History, and SCASPA affairs. After the first three rounds, the students displayed good competitive spirits and knowledge based on the different subject matters. In the end, the Basseterre High School scored the highest points. The Verchild’s High School gained the lowest points and was eliminated from the competition. The remaining schools, Washington Archibald High School, Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Cayon High School, Charles E. Mills Secondary School along with Basseterre High School will advance to the second round of the competition on Wednesday May, 4, 2011.

     


    Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Office, Ms. Jihan Williams, served as the Moderator for the evening while Marketing Manager of The Cable, Lornlia Matthew, Marketing and Human Resources Manager of St. Kitts Co-Operative Credit Union, Julie Charles, and Marketing Manager of St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Melnecia Marshall served as Judges. In addition, two officers of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, Shanda Queeley, and Techelle McClean-Warner along with ICT Training Coordinator of St. Kitts-Nevis National ICT Centre, Mr. Collin Frank, joined the team of officials as Scorers.

     


    The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority invites the general public to support the participants in the Best in Class Quiz competition by attending the elimination rounds on May 4, 18, 25, 2011 and the grand finale on Monday, May 30, 2011. All competitions will be held at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank starting at 7:00 p.m.
