Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, May 6th 2011 - Over 100 students from 6 secondary schools within the Federation participated in the Annual Trade Fair of the Junior Achievement Company Program on Friday April 30, 2011 at the Independence Square.

The event, steered by the Junior Achievement Advisory Committee and managed by the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, is sponsored annually by the First Caribbean International Bank and the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Ltd.  The Trade Fair is also part of the 3 phase project on which each school is judged; the initial phase being the formulation of business plans and their operation, and the final being the liquidation of the businesses.  The Trade fair gives the students the opportunity to showcase their products and /or services, and allows them the experience of entrepreneurship.

The Opening Ceremony was chaired by the Executive Director of the Chamber, Mr Calvin Cable and the Trade Fair was declared open by Mrs Lornette Queeley-Connor, Principal Education Officer in the Nevis Island Administration.  Several items were showcased including wooden hand crafted and painted tray sets, scented candles, Mothers’ Day gift sets and locally hand designed tops for children and adults. The booths were appropriately decorated and labeled for identification with the name of the school and the name of the Company.

During the upcoming Awards Ceremony which is scheduled to be held in June 2011, the winner of the Trade Fair will be announced and awarded.

The Chamber wishes to thank the sponsors, contributors, and the general public for the support given to the students and does look forward to your continued support.
