ROADTOWN Tortola, BVI, May 6th 2011 - Only recently, a matter reached to the court, where two school boys allegedly had sexual intercourse with an under-aged girl.

The caller said that many homes have access to the graphic channels and that parents aren’t always able to prevent their children from viewing such contents. “A lot of young people are exposed to that material very early.

They are given a very poor introduction to that nature at an early age.”

The caller also said that children, because they are exposed to pornography, will not be able to appreciate the difference between sex and intimacy as they grow older and sex would just become an activity for them.

“The foundation of which good relations are built on is not happening,” the caller opined.

Public recommend solutions to youth problems

Meanwhile, talk show host Mr. Elihu Rhymer opened the telephone lines to allow the public to make recommendations on what could be done to help the youths from taking a course of social destruction.

A caller was of the opinion that more jobs needed to be created for them and that government should inject more money into sports so that athletes could get incentives as a strategy of motivation.

Another person said that parents needed to pay more attention to their children as when they don’t children seek elsewhere for it and could easily be influenced to join gangs. A caller also suggested that parents should encourage their children to develop a habit for reading and studies and to also learn a trade at an early age.

A suggestion too was that contractors hire young VIslanders as apprentices so that they could develop their skills and earn money.

Mr. Rhymer suggested that a “Skill Needs Assessment” should be done by government and that a proper skills’ training institution be established. A caller then responded by saying that Government officials have been appealing at all corners for young people to take up free courses being offered at the college and there was no need for another institution to be established because the young people are simply not motivated.

“You can bring a horse to the water but you can’t make he drink,” the caller said
