BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – UNDER the theme ‘A Walk into History River Hike’, the Diamonds & Pearls Social Club successfully completed a hike through Bloody River in Challengers on April 30.

Although 150 persons had signed up for the hike, only 75 persons showed up as they may had been affected by the inclement weather that morning. However, those who had shown up were in for a treat.

The club’s Managing Director, Altonia Springer, who has a vast experience in organising hikes and other events, said that she organised the hike because she thought it would be great for persons to explore the waterfalls and learn more about the Carib’s drawings.

“It was a fun and educational experience. It was something different…it was a lot of climbing, but fun,” she said.

The participants had gathered at the ferry terminal around 5:00 a.m. and were transported to the starting point of the hike where they were briefed by the tour guide, Antonio Agard.

Diamonds & Pearls Social Club was founded by Springer and Leslie Farrel on April 1, 2010 under the name St Kitts Social Club.

The first activity its members undertook was a hike to Du Dos Pond on April 22, 2010.

The club followed up with Angie’s Black & White Party at the TDC Grounds on June 30, and also Springer’s Birthday Party, dubbed ‘Diamonds & Pearls: All that Glitters is Gold’ in October, which was later recognised by this media house as the ‘Party Of The Year’ for 2010.

Springer said the name was changed because of the success of the party, which she is hoping to host again this year.

She is also planning to organise more hikes where persons can learn more of the history of St. Kitts and explore the beauty of the island in a fun way.

She extended gratitude to the Fire and Rescue, Red Cross, LIME, Carib Brewery, Trevor Fraites and Associates, SKNVibes, LEAP, Plush, Vivid Design, Link-a-Link, Cane Juice, Members Only, Island Purified, Liamuiga Security, TDC, Horsfords and the St. Kitts Royal Marriott Hotel.
