Since its establishment, the company has always been living up to this motto. And in recognition of 125 years of excellent and incomparable insurance service to the nation, the company commemorated celebration of this milestone on Thursday (May 5) with a dinner and cocktails at the Nirvanna Restaurant of Fairview Inn, Boyds Village.
Speaking briefly to the guests, Managing Director of Delisle Walwyn Denzil Crooke gave details about the company’s history.
He said that Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd. is the oldest privately-owned limited liability company in St. Kitts, with its root dating back to the 1800s, adding that E.S Delisle was the largest shipping and general merchant in St. Kitts while W.E Walwyn was a successful insurance agency founded in 1886.
Crooke went on the say that Delisle and Walwyn merged their business entities to form Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd. in 1951.
“The merger,” he said, “brought together a wealth of experience in shipping, insurance, retail and auto sales & supplies.”
Crooke praised the company’s staff for the dedication and hard work they have displayed, noting that their quality customer service greatly helped in making the company the success that it is.
Director of Insurance Micheal H. Ryan told SKNVibes that the company has grown significantly over those years.
“We have grown. As the business opportunities presented themselves, we looked at them and invested in many areas. When we first started, it was primarily insurance, shipping and a little trading. But each of those industries have subsequently grown and expanded,” Ryan said.
Over the years, Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd. has grown from a staff of nine to well over 70. The company offers many services, and among them are non-life insurance and auto care. It is also the agent for a wide range of entities, including Money Gram, Ships and Kantours.
Ryan noted that while Kantours is a separate company, it is a fully owned subsidiary of Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd. Their services include tours and travel.
Ryan said that his future plans for the company are to continue to grow in the tourism industry and “to look for all opportunities to expand and grow”.
“Tourism is the main area of growth at the moment. A lot of our growth will be tailored directly and indirectly in that industry. Insurance is a financial service and it relates to tourism as well as other development areas, so as tourism grows, insurance also grows,” he added.
