BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE man who was shot by a public-spirited citizen after he allegedly attacked and beat a local businessman with a hammer was on Sunday (May 8) charged with wounding with intent.

According to a police press release, Rueben ‘Chuck’ Foster of Boyd’s Village was formally arrested and charged on a warrant in the first instance for wounding with intent.

On Friday, April 29, 2011 sometime after 5:00 p.m., reports reaching this publication indicated that while Michael ‘Bobsy’ Hawley of Half Moon Bay was seated in his minivan in Fort Street awaiting the resumption of traffic flow, Foster allegedly attacked and beat him with a hammer.

However, Glenford Gumbs of Gulf View Drive, Frigate Bay, who was behind Hawley’s minivan in a vehicle, went to the businessman’s rescue.

He drew his licenced firearm and shot Foster on the upper part of his left leg.

Foster, after receiving treatment for head injuries by members of the Emergency Medical Services, was transported to the JNF Hospital where he underwent emergency medical treatment for his leg wound and was warded in stable condition under police guard.

According to eyewitness account, after Foster was shot, Hawley exited his vehicle and struck him several times to the head with the same hammer.

Further, eyewitnesses claimed that Gumbs also went to Foster’s rescue by removing Hawley who was atop of him.

SKNVibes learnt that the two men had a physical encounter some months earlier at Hawley’s restaurant and bar in Frigate Bay.

The police have indicated that investigations into this matter are ongoing.
