Mom wants son, St. Cloud star Irving Huggins, to go to military boarding school for senior year
BASSETERRE St. Kitts, May 16th 2011 - Mercelese Huggins is a mother. And so by virtue of that alone, she is adorned with a phrase all mom’s carry: Mother knows best.
Every kid has heard it at least once. Irving Huggins, a top college football prospect for St. Cloud High School , has heard it a lot, recently.
Mom wants to send her son to a military boarding school, to see if the atmosphere will help him refocus his priorities toward preparation for college.
“It’s always football, football, football,” says Mercelese, who has chosen Hargrave Military in Chatham, Va., for her son’s next step. “I don’t have any outright issues with Irving. It’s just that education is not as important to him as it used to be, and right now, it needs to be. He’s supposed to be contending for valedictorian at St. Cloud … and he is not.”
Irving is a teenager. He wants to play football at St. Cloud High School. He wants to be a part of what his teammates and he believe is a legitimate goal: winning a state championship.
