Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, May 18th 2011 - Nevisian Cricketing all rounder Adelvin Phillip, left Nevis yesterday afternoon en route to England where he will pick up a semi professional contract with Hordem Cricket club based in Durham where he will be participating in the senior league there.

Phillip indicated that he has learnt that the league is of a very high standard but that based on the fact that he is accustomed to playing in high quality competitions on Nevis, he expects to do well.

He thanked former West Indies all rounder Deryck Parry for helping to arrange the deal for him and noted that he would have received offers from England previously but none of them had been as serious as this one.  He thanked God for allowing this deal to materialize.

Phillip teasingly stated that he learnt that his good friend Ian Byron who is already in England, made 137 not out in an innings for his team last weekend.  “If Ian can make 137—then I can make a double’, he said laughing.

A brief send off ceremony was held during the course of the morning’s assembly session at the Elizabeth Pemberton Primary school, where Phillip is the School’s Coach.

Headmistress Adina Taylor made the announcements and received a series of mourns and groans from the students.  She however noted that Phillip should be returning to the school by September of this year and this was received with loud cheers.

Phillip was then lovingly mobbed by the students as they wished him their personal ‘so longs’.

Phillip, who is a former captain of the Leeward Islands under 19 team, locally turns out for the Empire cricket club.
