Vybz Kartel goes from bleaching to braids

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DANCEHALL artiste Vybz Kartel seems to be doing everything in his power to remain the most talked about and controversial artiste coming out of Jamaica, judging from his recent decision to add extensions to his hair.

The popular ‘Clarks’ singer has recently been seen rocking what appear to be the Janet Collection braids in shoulder length singles.

Once again, this has stirred up much criticism from his fellow artistes in the music industry as well as many other people, including fans, who think he is taking the drastic appearance changes a bit too far.

In a recent BlackBerry broadcast message sent out by Vybz Kartel, according to Jahkno.com, he stated, “First off I’d like to say that all the fuss about my hair, as with every other thing that I do, has nothing to do with anything except plain old badmind. Because when I was involved in the Ninja Man incident a few years ago, I had in extensions then, why didn’t the hullabaloo commence then? Because I wasn’t on top so the hating wasn’t necessary.”

He continued: “When I did ‘Never Love Another Girl’ video in 2005, my hair was permed, why didn’t the inquisition commence? Because I wasn’t on top so the hating wasn’t necessary…What I’m saying is that when you’re on top people find all kinds of faults and flaws to point out in their quest to tear you down, but guess what, I couldn’t care less what people say or think about Kartel…P.S. Mavado, Elephant Man, Machel Montano (whose hair is done by the same girl who did mine) T.O.K. etc. have all had extensions put in. Talk bout that.”

After making that statement about other artistes wearing extensions as well, a few of them also made public statements denying what he said.

Only several months ago the Portmore Empire boss had been under heavy scrutiny for the bleaching of his skin, which he said he did for fun and to enhance his tattoos.

What’s your thoughts on De Techa’s new look?
