At approximately 4:00 a.m.Saturday 2nd September 2006, officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force responded to a report of gunshots being fired on Central Street, Basseterre in the vicinity of Browne Sugar. On arrival at the scene officers found EMS personnel treating a forty-seven-year-old male for a gunshot wound to his neck. He was subsequently taken to JNF GeneralHospital where he is presently listed in critical condition.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police is urging persons with information in relation to this incident, to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 465-2241, extension 220, 236 or 466-8351 and can do so anonymously.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Friday 1st September 2006, officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force executed three (3) search warrants in the CayonVillage area. As a result of the operation a small ziploc bag containing vegetable material suspected of being cannabis and twelve (12) cannabis plants were found on two of premises searched. The following persons were charged with offences in relation to the operation:
Tav Charles of Upper Cayon and Miguel Byron of Osbourne Street, Cayon were individually charged with the offences of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" and "Cultivation of a Controlled Drug". Charles was later bailed in the sum of $10,000.00 while Byron was bailed in the sum of $25,000.00 with both men to appear at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 5th September 2006.
The following persons were arrested and charged on 31st August 2006:
·Travis Matthew and a (17) seventeen-year-old male juvenile of SaddlersVillage were charged with the offence of "Causing Grievous Bodily Harm" committed on 19th August 2006 at SaddlersVillage. The juvenile was also charged with the offence of "Robbery" committed on the aforementioned date. They were later bailed in the sum of $15,000.00 each to appear at the Sandy Point Magistrate Court on 3rd October 2006.
·Two male juveniles" ages fourteen (14) and sixteen (16) of the SandyPoint area, were charged with the offence of "House Breaking and Larceny" committed between 5th and 7th August 2006. They were later bailed in the sum of $3,000.00 each to appear at the Sandy Point Magistrate Court on 11th September 2006.
·Jacqueline Gumbs of The Ghaut, SandyPoint was charged with the offence of "Receiving stolen goods" committed between 5th and 7th August 2006. She was later bailed in the sum of $3,000.00 to appear at the Sandy Point Magistrate Court on 8th September 2006.
At the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 31st August 2006, Virgil Gumbs of Parray Village, St. Peters who was charged with the offences of "Insulting Language" committed on 30th March 2006, "Annoyance" committed on 11th March 2006 and "Annoyance" committed on 9th March 2006 was convicted and sentenced as follows; he was cautioned on the first charge, reprimanded on the second charge and placed on a bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not have any contact with the victim in the case.
Meanwhile on 1st September 2006, Henry Matthew of SaddlersVillage, who was charged with the offence of "Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm", was bailed in the sum of $10,000.00 to appear at the Sandy Point Magistrate Court on 5th September 2006.
Also at the said court, a (17) seventeen-year-old male juvenile of Stapleton Village was convicted and ordered to undergo eighty (80) hours of community service at the Stapleton Police Station. The juvenile was charged with the offences of "Battery on a Police Officer", "Assault", "Indecent Language", "Obstruction", "Threatening Language" and "Resisting Arrest" committed on 30th August 2006. The offences occurred when an officer apprehended the juvenile for breaching a court order.
