BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (4th September 2006): Michael Francis of Jungle Gym won the title of the "2006 St. Kitts Jaycees Mr. Independence Body Building Championship". Francis walked away with the title after winning the overall pose down between category champions.
He was the winner of the Heavyweight division. The St. Kitts Jaycees successfully executed yet another project by hosting the RAMS Red Bull 2nd Annual "Mr. Independence Body Building Competition".
The event was held on Saturday, September, 2 at the Royal Ballroom of the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
Eleven athletes from St. Kitts and Nevis participated in the competition. There were ten participants from St. Kitts and one from Nevis.
Last years competition was won by Colin Lazarus of Nevis and this year is the first time Francis won the St. Kitts Jaycees' Competition.
There were three other categories including Bantamweight, Lightweight and Middleweight.
The Bantamweight division catered to participants weighing up to 143 lbs. Tyrone Mills of Ocean View Gym was adjudged winner of that category, while Kendall Jeffers of K.T's Fitness Centre took 2nd place.

The Lightweight division catered to participants weighing between 143 and 154 lbs. Marlon Heyliger won the category while Romaine Belgrove took second place.
Lesroy Versailles won the Middleweight division which caters to athletes between 154 and 165lbs. Second place went to Beko Lapsey while in third place was Douglas Liburd.
The Heavyweight division caters to athletes weighing over 176 lbs and in second place was Gavin Skerritt and third was Dwayne Liddie.
There was a guest appearance by Kenroy Hensley, a son of the soil, and former Mr. St. Kitts. He now resides in Louisiana, and was the 2003 Mr. Louisiana.

Terrance Richards, Treasurer of the Body Building Competition said; "The show was very successful. We had four divisions and to me the crowd was very appreciative in every way possible. There was no one shouting that we cheated for any of the division winners."
He added, "The judges were all fair and the heavy weight competition was totally clear by the winner. To avoid any controversy we used all overseas judges for the show. The six judges were from St. Martin and Antigua."
The overall trophy was donated by the Prime Minister Denzil Douglas and presented by Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport Richard Skerritt.
