The case, which was previously tried and ended in a hung jury, was traversed from 2009.

The prosecution alleged that on June 21, 2008 Browne had robbed the business entity of EC$240.

The prosecution team, led by Rhonda Nisbett-Browne, called on four witnesses this morning to support their claims, after which the team rested its case.

Browne, who is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Jason Hamilton, was asked what form of defence he would take but decided to remain silent in the prisoner’s dock.

Sandy Point resident Leon Douglas, who was employed at the bakery as a baker, was the first of the prosecution’s witnesses to testify.

Douglas told the court that after making deliveries on the day in question, he and Justin Joseph had arrived on the bakery’s compound sometime around 11:30 p.m.

Douglas said that he disembarked the bus to throw something in the garbage bin and saw someone running towards him with a gun.

He added that the person asked him “where is the money” and told him he wanted it.

Douglas also told the court that the gunman pushed him against the bus and asked Joseph, who was inside the vehicle, for the money.

Douglas said that as Joseph was giving the gunman a container that contained the money, it fell to the ground and he picked it up and gave it to him. However, he added, while handing over the money to the accused, he heard the report of gunfire and he ran away.

Gregory Jones, who was the manager of the bakery at the time, said that he was inside the building and did not see what happened.

Jones said that he heard a loud bang like a gunshot coming from the outside and also the sound of someone running on the rooftop of the bakery.

He said he went outside immediately and met Douglas who spoke to him.

Orlando Hughes, the police officer who investigated the matter, told the court that on August 2, 2008 he cautioned Browne and told him he was making inquiries into an armed robbery, and Browne said he knew nothing about it.

He was then formally arrested and charged on August 4, 2008.

This afternoon, the prosecution and defence counsel were expected to present their closing arguments, which would be followed by the summation by His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas.

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF’S NOTE: Information was just received from Attorney-at-Law Jason Hamilton that Jermaine Browne was acquitted. More on his acquittal in a subsequent article.
