Dagah’s ‘Your Turn To Cry’ creating quite a buzz

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER releasing his latest single ‘Your Turn To Cry’ earlier this month (May), local rapper Kwame ‘Dagah’ Samuel has been blowing up the airwaves and also creating quite a buzz with the music video since its premiere.

‘Your Turn To Cry’ features a touching music video in which Dagah plays the role of a good man to his woman - played by former National Queen Sudeaka Francis - but finds out that she cheated on him. And in making matters worse, she tries to physically abuse him when he confronts her.

The good man decides to end the relationship and tells the woman that it is now her turn to cry.

A friend introduces him to a female with whom he starts an intimate relationship, and while shopping one day they are seen by his ex-girlfriend who breaks down in tears.

According to Dagah, while composing the song, he was mainly thinking about the original version of ‘Love The Way You Lie’ by Eminem and Rihanna, adding that his song was created on the basis of that situation.

“This is a song about a situation that everyone can relate to; everyone can put themselves in that song. It was not about a specific person, but some aspects of the song embrace real life feelings,” he stated.

Dagah said he has been receiving an amazing amount of positive feedback and love for the video. He said the things people have to say about it are really remarkable, while adding that the video has had over 5 500 hits on You Tube in less than one week of its release.

“I have even had people in the US asking for the song and video. DJ Kevy Kev out of Florida has played the song during The Kevy Kev Mix Show which is syndicated from Orlando to Africa. So I am very excited to know my music is getting out there worldwide. I appreciate all the love I have gotten from my fans…I would not be here without them,” Dagah said.

The rapper told SKNVibes that he is currently working on a number of projects to take his musical career to another level.

Dagah said he has been in the studio over the past three months trying to finish his new mix tape, indicating that it is going to “shut the industry down”.

The new album will see 14 new remixes to major songs such as ‘Moment for Life’ by Niki Manaj and ‘Black and Yellow’.

He said it would be the project that sets the jump-off for his label iRepSKN Music Group.

iRepSKN is a successful business and clothing line based out of St. Kitts and Nevis which was recently expanded to include iRepSKN Music Group and iRepSKN TV.

Dagah said he has also been working with DJ Kevy Kev after they had linked up through the iRepSKN family, and the DJ had contributed a track for his 2010 St. Kitts Carnival album called ‘Federation Bounce Vol.1.’.

He said after discussing the mix tape project with DJ Kevy Kev, he was more than happy to host it under the name ‘DJ Kevy Kev Presents Dagah: SKN Top Rapper’, which they are hoping to release next month.

The young lyricist, who has been rapping for over eight years, said he would like to use this opportunity to thank his fans.

“I would like to thank all my fans out there that have supported me and shown me love. I couldn’t do this without them,” he said.
