Jervin Dowell on trial for housebreaking, larceny and receiving

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JERVIN DOWELL of Taylors Housing Project is currently on trial for breaking into the Bentel Drive, Bird Rock home of Antonio Nias on January 19, 2010.

The prosecution is alleging that on that day, Dowell broke into Nias’ home and stole a Dell Inspiron Laptop and a flat screen television, all to the value of EC$5 340.

He is also charged with receiving a laptop that belongs to Nias.

Information reaching SKNVibes indicates that on the day of the incident, Nias and his common-law wife had left their home at around 7:00 p.m. However, on their return around 10:00 p.m., Nias observed that his television was missing and found that a mosquito screen from one of the windows was out and the blinds were not in place.

He also looked around and saw that his laptop was missing.

Nias subsequently made a report to the police and investigations were conducted.

In March that same year, he was summoned to the Basseterre Police Station where he identified a laptop that the police found in the possession of Dowell while executing a search warrant at his home.

It is said that Nias was able to identify the laptop by certain markings and information on it.

Dowell had also told the police that the laptop belonged to him.

His trial began on Thursday (May 26) and will continue on Monday (May 30).

The prosecution is expected to call a total of four witnesses while Dowell will be representing himself.
