BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE weekend was filled with action and to much surprise all of Saturday’s events were well attended. However, the Frigate Bay Strip on Friday night was a huge disappointment when compared with the previous Friday, which had seen a heavy downpour of rain.
SKNVibes arrived at the Frigate Bay Strip a few minutes after midnight on Saturday morning (May 28) and found the venue void of its usually activities, with a few patrons in most of the bars excepting Ziggy’s Bar which had a small crowd.
Friday night also saw the Miss A.R.M.O.U.R Pageant at the Beach Allen School Grounds, which attracted a large turnout of patrons who witnessed Amelia Mc Koy taking the crown and also the awards for Best Talent, Best Evening Wear and Best Interview.
At the G-Spot in Sandy Point, the venue was pumping with music and an over-crowed dance floor. For a brief moment, a Rasta man was seen as the king of the dance floor as he had moves like no other, which generated much attention. However, his bulb was blown by two females who took to the stage; one gyrating on her head and the other being lifted across the stage by a famous local artiste as she did suggested moves by the DJ.
Saturday was the ZIZ 50th Anniversary Song Competition at Carnival Village which was won by 14-year-old Dejour Alexander.
Approximately 100 metres from Carnival Village, patrons were heading for The Basement shortly after midnight to be part of the Red Wine and Black Roses Affair. Many were seen on the outside at that time, but by 2:00 a.m. the inside was filled to capacity.
According to one of the organisers, the event was a great success. He said the place looked like a little Miss St. Kitts show because the ladies were beautiful and the men were also ‘showing out’.
Over in the east, upon approaching Club NV the outside was filled with cars and the numbers showed on the inside with drinkers and party people getting warmed up for the Beer Fest.
The event started in a lukewarm atmosphere with selections by DJ Yardy, Sister Sensia and Guinness Evolution. However, sometime after 3:00 a.m., it erupted like a volcano when the Nu Vybes Band took over. Many female patrons were seen jumping, bouncing and ‘getting on bad’ while most of their male counterparts just stood and looked on.
Meanwhile, at De Green Valley Pub, rain fell intermittently but that did not stop the action as masses kept on ‘Whaling’ to the Grand Masters Band. They stopped ‘Whaling’ sometime shortly before sunrise.
Yesterday, it was back to the Frigate Bay Strip where the Four Play Band delivered a variety of music to a nice, mellow atmosphere at Doc’s, while DJ Wet Dutt entertained a small crowd at Monkey Bar and DJ Yardy piped up Ziggy’s Bar’s happy hour.
