Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, May 30th 2011 - Mr David Lake, General Manager, LIME (Land, Internet, Mobile and Entertainment) St. Kitts and Nevis Limited, last week reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to the development of youth and sports in the country, when he presented $10,000 to two public schools in St. Kitts.

Accompanied by the company’s Corporate Communications Manager, Mrs Laverne Caines, Mr Lake first called on the Washington Archibald High School during morning assembly on Tuesday last week, where they presented a cheque of $5,000 to principal, Mr Clifford Govia.

“This school has exhibited the kind of pride and dedication that we at LIME want to be associated with,” said Mr Lake. “We have decided and commissioned for ourselves a vision where we want to partner with institutions like yours in the development of sports, (and) in the development of youth and you exemplify the kind of role models that we want to partner with.”

After handing over that cheque, they moved across to the neighbouring Beach Allen Primary School, where Principal, Mrs Emileta Warner-Paul, in the company of Grade 61 students, accepted a cheque of $5,000 which she said would go towards the construction of a multipurpose hard court.

“LIME is extremely proud to be associated with this school and this programme,” Mr Lake announced at Beach Allen Primary School. “We have Mr Murraine to thank for his generosity. He selected your school as the recipient of this big cheque of EC$5,000. When you get your multipurpose hard court, I want you to take good care of it. Make sure you do not litter it, you do not trash it about, make sure you use it for the purpose it is built.”

“Ensure that you have a sound education,” said Mrs Laverne Caines while giving advice to the students at Beach Allen Primary School. “We ask that you strike a balance between sports and academics. It is very important that even when you become the greatest cricketer when you open your mouth to speak, you speak intelligently.”

In a fairy-like story, a Shadwell Housing Development couple that took part in LIME’s CARIFTA texting promotions saw the husband, Mr Winston Murraine, named winner last year and the wife Mrs Telpher Murraine winning this year. According to Mrs Caines, part of the prize was a gift of EC$5,000 to any publicly funded school of their choice where the money would be spent on any sporting programme.

Mr Murraine did not receive his prize as soon as he was named the winner last year, but that happened last week when his wife, the winner for this year, was receiving her prize. The couple did not have to think hard as to which schools would receive the windfall. Their son Telston Murraine is a grade six student at the Beach Allen Primary school, and is expected to join the Washington Archibald High School in September, the two schools that benefitted.

For her effort Mrs Murraine received a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, while Mr Murraine received Huawei G6600 GSM Quad-Band mobile phone. Asked to address the students at the Washington Archibald High School, Mrs Murraine came out as one of very few words: “Good morning teachers, students of the WAHS. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to donate this gift to you and use it wisely. God bless you all.”
