Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will be one of speakers at Tuesday's formal opening session of the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting which opens in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
The meeting enables Commonwealth countries to discuss key issues which are likely to come up at the International Monetary Fund-World Bank meeting which will be launched in Singapore on September 15, and arrive at a common Commonwealth policy position on them.
The Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting will also enable member states to consider concrete action in the context of broader development issues in the world economy.
Besides considering in depth, special themes of economic importance to members, the Ministers of Finance will review development cooperation activities of the Commonwealth Secretariat including the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation.
The opening address at the CFMM launch on the evening of September 12, at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, will be delivered by Sri Lanka's Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Sarath Amunugama.
His address will be followed by speeches by Commonwealth Secretary General, His Excellency Don Mackinnon and the Prime Minister and Finance Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas.
~~Adz:Right~~Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa will also address the meeting, followed by a Reply to Address by Finance and Development Planning Minister of Botswana, Baledzi Gaolathe.
These addresses would be followed by dinner, and the ministerial meeting will commence September 13.
