-- Minister with responsibility for Communications and Works, Public Utilities and Posts in the Nevis Island Administration, the Hon Mr A. Michael Perkins, has welcomed the considerate gesture by the First Caribbean International Bank of erecting a traffic signage on Main Street, Charlestown.

The permanent signage to direct the flow of traffic at the folk-junction on the one-way section of Main Street outside the First Caribbean International Bank’s Charlestown branch was commissioned on Monday by the Basseterre-based bank’s country Manager, Ms Kim Campbell, who handed it to government through the minister.

“On behalf of the Nevis Island Administration and also the constituency of St. Paul’s,” said the Hon Perkins, “I would like to express our commendation to First Caribbean International Bank on this very thoughtful gesture of creating this traffic sign here in the heart of Charlestown.”

The minister noted that on completion of the road project, Public Works Department had given some thought as to exactly what sort of permanent structure they would erect at the spot to give direction to the traffic flow. A makeshift signage provided by the Traffic Department had been put into use to direct traffic in the interim.

Country Manager for First Caribbean International Bank, Ms Kim Campbell, who was introduced by the Nevis branch manager, Mr David Duesbury, said that the traffic signage, which was made in recognition of the bank’s launch of its new name, ensured that the landmark berth of First Caribbean International Bank would be marked with the bank’s donation to the communities in which they serve.
“Nevis being one of those communities, we work with different partners including Mr Evelyn (of Super Food Supermarket, who assisted in its erection), to ensure we came up with something that is meaningful and lasting and enduring and will benefit all of the citizens of Nevis,” observed Ms Campbell.

She added: “It is with great pleasure that I hand over this gift, one of two that we will be making to Nevis, the second one being a donation to the public library (on Wednesday), to the minister as representative of the people and hope that everyone will enjoy and cherish it and make sure it does remain a lasting gift to the people.”
