    Don’t gamble with your future!

Similar to a coronation ceremony, seven years ago the University of PAM appointed Lindsay Grant to be the Leader of the party. We say appointed because unlike any other political party in the region, PAM has the unique distinction of having a chosen set of high ranking officials select those persons who they so desire to govern over the rank and file of the party.

Also similar to a coronation ceremony is the fact that persons selected to govern and rule over the rank and file of PAM have to be ‘to the manner born’ or puppets from working class backgrounds, and consideration of ability and competency are of no relevance.

Despite this unique and undemocratic process of selection, the same leaders of PAM can be heard criticising the Labour Party Government on the grounds of democracy, even though the very process by which they are selected runs contrary to the essence of democracy.

Many of the rank and file members of PAM have ironically begun shouting ‘one man, one vote!’ behind a leader who was not elected by the same principle.

Ask any rank and file members of PAM if they had the opportunity of voting for Grant to be leader or if they know when the elections for party leader were being held, and with an honest conscience they would be unable to answer either question.

On the basis it should not and cannot be in the mouth of PAM to talk about democracy and a transparent democrat process.

It is no wonder then that the rank and file members of PAM have begun to question and call for Mr. Grant’s resignation in light of his dismal and pathetic record of leadership.

Seven years ago under unknown and clandestine circumstances, loser Lindsay ascended to the leadership of PAM ahead of far more experienced and competent persons than himself. It is any wonder that, seven years later he now has to hold on to the coat tails of the former party leader.

It is any wonder that although Kennedy Simmonds is politically irrelevant in the national sense, his appeal to the rank and file of PAM have caused them to bring him in the help console angry supporters.

It is no coincidence that at the launch to commemorate the seven years of failure under Mr. Grant’s leadership the tune of the now discarded Simmonds’ speech was for the party to work together and support the leader.

Surely it cannot be coincidence that Simmonds’ sudden regular appearance on the political scene to ask for unity and support for Grant comes at a time when the rank and file feel that his lack of leadership and experience have caused their political ship to sink further.

It is obvious that Grant is inept at lending himself much less lending a political party or a nation for that matter.

Glaring examples abound of his inability to lead, either himself or his party. Just look at his statements regarding what he said his party’s positions were in relation to the refusal to participate in the Electoral Reform process, the declaration of the assets of his candidates, the renunciation of his and his deputy’s US Citizenship, the resignation of his deputy from the National Assembly.

To date Mr. Grant has not been able to sustain or fulfil any of the positions regarding his actions or those of his party. He behaves like a man who is not in control of his actions and certainly those of his party.

How can we as a nation therefore trust or believe anything he says when it is obvious that he is not in control of himself? Is this the type of leadership you would wish to see governing this country? Is this the type of leadership you would wish to gamble your children’s future under?

If even the rank and file of PAM recognise Mr. Grant’s inadequacy then in no uncertain terms should the general citizenry think or act otherwise.

Under the leadership of Dr. the Honourable Denzil L. Douglas, we see a leader of a party elected by the people based on his proven and remarkable track record of success. That success prior to being elected to party leadership has continued after being so elected.

It is no wonder then, that that quality of leadership has allowed the esteemed party leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party to become a recognised statesman locally, regionally and internationally.

It is for this reason why the party can boast of leadership that works for you.

Don’t gamble with that hopeless leadership in the discredited and rejected PAM party. Don’t gamble with your future!
