Dear Sir:
As the Prime Minister of St.Kitts and Nevis, I implore you not to support the barbaric and inhumane practices that are visited on the marine creatures by the Japanese and like minded nations. In particular I was most distressed that for a few talents of silver the Japanese and like minded nations have persuaded our independent sovereign nation to participate and support their plans to kill 50 hump back whales and 50 fin whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary in January 2008. It also seriously concerns me that we are also going to allow them and the Taiwanese to come and teach our fishermen fishing practices that will further contribute to the decimation of our marine environment and also thereby by example publicly declare to the world that our nation is in concert with the Japanese and other like minded nations.
Whilst these actions may be hidden behind the screen of exploiting the Nation's marine resources the continued needless killing of whales dolphins and sharks as well as the possible future use of indiscriminate fishing practices will only make our Nation a pariah within the world community. This will inevitably have a severe backlash from the tourists who come from Nations virulently opposed to the actions and positions taken by the Japanese and like minded nations.
I would ask that you disassociate yourself from the Japanese and like minded nations and seek council with your fellow members of the Caribbean Community to establish a sound policy for our joint maritime environment that can be used as a respected ecological policy for the future of the worldwide environment.
