Leader of The People's Action Movement - Mr. Lindsay F. P. Grant Political |
Allow me to extend best wishes to all as we celebrate this most auspicious event in the history of our Federation.
Twenty-three years ago, our twin-island Federation was welcomed into the family of independent nations.
The attainment of sovereignty which was realized by the Government of the People's Action Movement and the Nevis Reformation Party was the culmination of long years of struggle to achieve the control of our destiny that our people deserved.
At this time of reflection, we can, with pride, remember all the milestones that we have reached not just nationally but also regionally and internationally. These milestones were built on the solid foundation laid by the People's Action Movement. It was no easy task.
Our past struggles must therefore be a reminder to us all that we ought to protect, preserve and defend our democracy at all costs.
At this time we also are forced to remember those who have so tragically and violently lost their lives only within the last two weeks.
Such events at this significant time serve as a stark reminder that our work for the continued social, economic and political development is not yet done and there can be no doubt that it will take a People's Action Movement administration to finish the work that we started.
I want all my fellow citizens, as we enjoy all the festivities attending this celebration, to think about the serious business of government and look forward to the next opportunity when we will have the chance to right the wrongs of the last decade.
I hope that we can all enjoy an event free Independence Celebration as we strive to make the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis grow from strength to strength and to take its rightful place in the regional and international sphere.
Happy Independence Day
God Bless us all.
