Charlestown Nevis (September 20, 2006) - Junior Minister of Utilities in the Nevis Island Administration, the Hon Carlisle Powell called on graduates of the NEVLEC Linesmen Training Workshop to improve their standard of performance.
He was at the time addressing the closure of a two week workshop held at the company's training room at Prospect. "My government believes that with proper training, our workers will be better prepared to deliver consistently high quality service.
"As it relates specifically to NEVLEC, this service must include more than just the power that we sell," added Minister Powell. "It must also include customer care and the public must identify NEVLEC as a people friendly business that all of our customers want to do business with."
"I am therefore please as the Minister with direct responsibility for utilities to be present today to congratulate NEVLEC and all six of the participants who are graduating from this training.
"As a member of CARILEC, we intend to take advantages of all the available training that helps to improve the safety of our workers," he added. "We will also be seeking new ways to continue to improve the basic knowledge of our people.
"I want to charge you the graduates, to raise the bar and force other sections of the company to stretch upwards to meet your improved level of performance. You have to make sure that the rest of NEVLEC would see a change in you, would see improve standards and that you would force them to meet your new and improved standards," said the Hon Carlisle Powell.
The workshop, which ran from September 4 to 15, 2006 was facilitated by Mr. Alfred Harris of Jamaica, representative of the Caribbean Electricity Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC), Co-sponsor of the programme.
~~Adz:Right~~Areas covered during the workshop are Electrical Fundamentals; Generation, Transmission and Distribution; Electrical Diagrams and Specifications; Electrical Safety; Instruments and Testing Riggins; Climbing Poles and Structure Using Tools, Care Maintenance and Testing of Tools and Transformer Connections.
Other persons who addressed the ceremony were Acting General Manager of NEVLEC, Mr Cartwright Farrell, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Ernie Stapleton and Facilitator Mr. Alfred Harris. The ceremony was chaired by Ms Maureen Webbe while the distribution of certificates was presented by Minister of Communications and Utilities, the Hon Robelto Hector.
