    Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 20, 2006):
    A 17-member delegation headed by the Minister of State with responsibility for Culture Hon. Richard Skerritt leaves the Federation on Thursday to participate in CARIFESTA IX.

    The September 22 to October 1 event will be held in Trinidad and Tobago under the theme "Celebrating Our People, Contesting the World Stage."
     
    A spokesperson from the Department of Culture explained that the participation of the national delegation will be rooted in performance and observation. 

    New band sensation "Royalties" " fresh off of a successful appearance at the Digicel Independence Concert " and poet Loughlin Tatem will perform at various functions. 

    Meanwhile, persons from the Department intimately involved in staging local community festivals will benefit from observing the organizational aspects of events. 

    They will also provide technical support to the performers and the SKNIS officer going along to document the event.
     
    The official explained that the ministry was excited about the prospect of showcasing Royalties Band at the premier regional cultural show. 

    She added that the band was made up of talented young individuals and their inclusion in the delegation provides a mix of veteran performers with the enthusiasm and energy of youth.
     
    The cultural representatives will also participate in media and other organized activities to promote programmes implemented in St. Kitts by the Department of Culture.
