BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 22ND 2006 - St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is to address United States Ambassadors serving in the Caribbean next week.
Prime Minister Douglas has been invited by United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Her Excellency Mrs. Mary Kramer to attend the Fifth Annual Caribbean Regional United States Chiefs of Mission Conference on HIV/AIDS, at the Accra Beach Hotel, Barbados.
Participants at the conference will be Ambassadors and employees of U.S. Embassies and other agencies in the region who support the HIV/AIDS related initiatives in their host countries.
The theme for this year's Conference is : Five Years of Success: Building Momentum Towards 2010.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister is among influential regional leaders to have a more in-depth discussion on the road ahead and how the United States Government can more effectively support the HIV/AIDS related efforts in the Caribbean region.
Besides Prime Minister Douglas, regional leaders invited to the Conference are Prime Minister of Barbados, the Right Hon. Owen S. Arthur; Chairman of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Dr. Carol Jacobs; Assistant Secretary General for Human and Social Development at the CARICOM Secretariat, Dr. Edward Greene.
The objectives of the September 23 and 24 Conference are to provide U.S. Ambassadors with an u7nderstanding of the various levels of assistance being provided to the region by the United States Government and other donors to mitigate the spread of HIV/AIDS; to review successes and lessons learned in HIV/AIDS programming in the region and dicuss perspectives and opportunities for how Ambassadors can use their positions to advocate for HIV/AIDS in their countries.
