The entire slate of Ministers in the Labour government has shown time and again that they believe that, as their former leader once said, Labour can take life and land. They all behave like the lords of all they survey so it is not surprising that the one who is supposed to be the first among equals but is in reality as he likes to tell us, ten man in one, should call himself supreme. It is for this reason that they all either sat dumbly or, worst yet, gave their voice to a gross contempt of court when their ruler declared that he would defy the court and lay the tainted Report of the Boundaries Commission and the resultant proclamation in the Parliament. No a single man among them could stand for what was right. Only a former Minister could stand and say not me; “I will not take part in anything that is offensive to the courts of this country!”

Yet despite the fact that that they all suffer from a severe lack of the strength of character that one would expect from men in leadership they do not all suffer equally. There is one who is far above the rest as the worst and most obsequious. This one is an expert on anything once he decides to open his mouth on the subject which is why he has declared himself in Parliament a man of Exterior and Interior motives. Mere mortals can only have ulterior motives.

This Minister was the subject of a contempt action for his flagrant defiance of the court but escaped official censure because the clear proof of his violation of the rule of law could be hidden behind the curtain of Parliamentary privilege. Yet he is so arrogant that he thought that he got away so he could do as he like in the court just like he did in Parliament.

While the Chairman of the Boundaries Commission was being cross examined by eminent Queen’s Counsel he was asked whether “Exterior motives” presented himself at a particular meeting. The Chairman rather unwisely looked in the direction of “Exterior motives” who was actually nodding at him! The shocked lawyer could barely contain an exclamation wondering why “Exterior motives” was nodding after all, where she is from that is called trying to corrupt the witness. Fortunately the judge saw the arrogance on display and himself could hardly believe the conduct of a Member of Parliament. He said to Minister Liburd in a very stern tone: “you are Mr. Liburd; well I will not have that conduct in this court! The witness is supposed to answer based on his recollection I will not tolerate prompting in here!”

“Exterior motives” was shocked; he really thought that he could run things in the courthouse like in that other House. Fortunately the judge saw his conduct for what it was and gave him the appropriate stern and public dressing down. Citizens of this Federation can again thank the courts for humbling another out of control yes man Minister. When the “ten man in one” rings the bell we all will get the chance!
