Basseterre, St. Kitts - For the first time in St. Kitts, Courts introduced a sleep-a-thon, where volunteers were judged on how long they can sleep or keep their eyes shut.
Dwight Buchanan was awarded the overall winner from a field of 12 other participants and he won himself a cash prize of $1,000.
On Thursday, September, 21 at Courts Headquarters on the Bay Road curious onlookers watched on as 13 participants beginning from 8 a.m. slept snuggly in the show room beds at Courts. The rules were that they needed to keep their eyes closed at all times even if they weren't sleeping and to drink one glass of juice or water every hour after 10 a.m.
Marketing Manger for Courts Antigua and St. Kitts Kimon Drigo told SKNVibes.com that, "It's Courts idea to come up with the idea, since it had started at the St. Lucia Courts."
The sleep-a-thon has been going on for four years in St. Lucia where it first started.
"It has been good so far we had thirteen participants and now we are down to four," Drigo said at about 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The competition ended at 4 p.m. with Buchanan winning first place. Second runnes-up received $500.00 and third place $300.00 vouchers.
Other countries that have been associated with the Sleep-a-thon are St. Vincent and Antigua which hosted theirs the following day.
Derrick Fraites one of the curious onlookers told SKNVibes.com that he thought the idea was great to advertise the company's mattresses.
"But I think it should have been more than $1,000 and maybe more participants would have entered," he said.
