I chanced upon Mr. Hastings Daniel's article “In the Public Interest”, which appeared in the Leewards Ttimes. I found it to be unfocused and rambling.
For the record, I am not sure that the “caucasian”, in other words, white, people are going to take over Nevis. I don't believe they have any interest in or want to.
First of all, they are not a large number, and most cannot vote. To evoke the Tea Party which is a homegrown organic US phonemon is to misunderstand its origins as it has nothing whatsoever to do with race. (A short history lesson for Mr. Daniel: in the mid eighteenth century, the Birtish increased the tax on tea substantially. This resulted in a “party” where a group of colonists dumped a shipload of tea into the Boston Harbor as a protest.) The current Tea Party is for lower taxes and less government and has a black as its presidential candidate.
Mr. Hastings Daniel presents the entire CCM as racist: the individuals I know are anything but. As I am certain he knows, racism is a very dangerous mindset, which brings to mind Nazi Germany and the civiI rights movement in the US south. I know many leaders in the CCM and consider them color-blind. Perhaps Mr. Daniel ought to carefully consider the consequences of accusing the entire CCM of being racist.
In terms of crime, of course there has been an endemic outbreak of crime in both St. Kitts and Nevis. There is crime everywhere, and no sensible person would deny that.
To close, I would like to suggest to Mr. Daniel that his remarks appear to be nothing more than that of a person with a grudge than that of a reasonable and thouightful gentleman.
