Our number one sport has been under the spotlight over the past year. We have heard many allegations and accusation leveled at the present management of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association. And for the first time in our history we have a National Sporting organisation having direct competition with disgruntled members.

In listening to all the actors involved in this sordid affair, it is quite clear that personalities and egos played such a huge role in causing us to be at this situation. In all this I am thinking of our country’s motto. Why can’t men of such high education not sit, discuss and be able to reason with each other? We as a nation need to be able to take our personal vendettas and put them aside if we are truly thinking “Country Above Self”.

The SKNFA its management and all twenty-playing clubs have come into some undeserved and unwarranted attacks.

In 2007/2008 the SKNFA was voted as the #2 organisation in the Caribbean Football Union by its members. One must ask how many and who make up the CFU for our country can be voted as the second best organisation.

The Digicel Kick Start Programme last year, saw two Kittitian youngsters among nine selected by John Barnes for try outs in England. The significance of this seems to be lost on some people; Trinidad and Jamaica with populations over one million were only able to have one player. This must be due to our well run and structured youth development programme.

Our youths have been performing and this again seems to getting no kind or kind word from people who just want to oppose. In 2007/2008, we defeated Trinidad, in Trinidad, to advance in our World Cup Qualifier. Small St. Kitts, where no progress is being made in football, drew with the mighty Reggae Boyz.

As all before, those endorsements came from outside, people who see the good that is happening here, but yet we are fed daily that football is dead in St. Kitts and going nowhere. Well we should know of AC Milan, yes AC Milan from Italy has invited St. Kitts to one of its yearly held tournaments. We must be open minded and ask, why would such a club invite St. Kitts? It is our Youth Programme.

To all those who are placing personalities in place of upward and forward movement of football in St. Kitts, please don’t say anything is happening, tell us how you can move us forward.
