Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 27, 2006): The Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of National Security and the Urban Development Corporation is in the process of retraining security guards employed in the vicinity of Port Zante, the Ferry Terminal and the Pelican Mall.
During the course of this week the security guards are gaining invaluable exposure in terms of increasing their scope of responsibilities.
The workshop is the first step in the process towards making these security guards full-fledged traffic wardens but they will maintain their role as security officers on the port and surrounding environs.
Topics for the workshop include traffic offences, traffic ticketing, foot drills, evidence and types of evidence, giving evidence and oath, report writing, case file preparation, traffic signs and signals and oral communication.
At the opening ceremony for the seminar, Permanent Secretary of Tourism Mr. Lloyd Lazar urged participants to seek to excel in learning their new role and expressed the importance of their present and expanded roles.
Another group of security guards will receive the same training next week
