Basseterre, St. Kitts (April 07, 2004): Young people interested in learning music or sharpening their vocal skills can do so over the Easter vacation.

The Ministry Information, Culture, Youth and Sport is hosting a camp from April 13 - 17, for persons between the age of seven to twenty-five years. The camp takes place at the Newtown Community Centre and will feature lessons in drum, guitar and keyboard as well as instruction in various brass and wood wind instruments.

Music Specialist Nigel Williams told SKNIS that he expects at least 50 persons to participate in this workshop. He revealed that discipline will be instilled in attendees as they cover topics such as music theory, transposing, tone control, scale construction, recitals and others.

Williams will facilitate the sessions along with Royd Phipps, Wycliffe Robinson, Wingrove Williams, John Jones, Gavin Charles, Ron Clarke and Sydney Clarke. An interesting feature of the camp will feature special appearances by popular local and foreign musicians.

The music specialist noted that the four-day session will provide an avenue for young persons to engage in a beneficial course rather than becoming involved in antisocial behaviour.

Classes begin at 9:00 a.m. daily and run to 4:30 p.m. An opening ceremony is planned, which will be attended by officials from the ministry including Permanent Secretary Lloyd Lazar and Director of Culture Creighton Pencheon.

Interested individuals should contact the ministry at 465-2521 ext 1392, 1393 or 1388 for further information.
