Since the Marriott Bribery Scandal, I have washed my hands clean of Mr. Grant. No longer can I argue that he should be the next prime minister. Wrong is wrong. And in this case Grant is stiff dead wrong and stone dead wrong. If I were Grant, I would not have waited for anybody to ask me to step down. I would have done so immediately. I do sometimes wonder who advises him.
I am not close to the PAM party but I usually get inside information from people in the know. The same thing use to happen when Bradshaw was in power. When I want the latest melee, I would just go and lime by Byron Gas Station up de Village or lime with the big boys in the Park. “When mouth open ’tory jump out!”
If you lime by Barbs Shop or by Johnny Shop you will get plenty stories, especially political stories. A lot of political juice has been flowing since the letter was sent by the five PAM candidates. The picture is becoming clearer and clearer each day.
According to one light-skinned gentleman high up in the party, Grant had no intention of stepping down because three days after the General Elections a press statement was issued that said Grant would continue as party head. The gentleman said that the plan was to postpone the Caucus and Convention to July (around the time the Petition case was to start) so that Grant could head into the Caucus with a lot of publicity and hype. This move was to prevent anyone from challenging Grant as leader of the Party.
Boy, ah tell you when mouth open ’tory jump out! The Caucus and Convention was already scheduled for March but they were postponed under the guise of reorganizing the constituencies. Another gentleman wanted to know if it were true that two gentlemen visited five constituencies to make sure that the delegates chosen for the caucus were supporters of Mr. Grant, but the light-skinned fellow say that was “party business”.
At this time, a young lady stepped into the conversation and said she does hear plenty things about the PAM party because a certain fellow who is close to the PAM money and suffers from “Big Shot-itist” likes to chat a lot. She said he was cussing Grant after the Election and saying how Grant mek the Party lose. He even had a dinner meeting with the Big Man on the other side. But he is now sucking up to Grant. Ah wonder why?
Tanty tell me that Grant will not step down because he gets a lot of benefits from the position. Tanty is not so bright, having dropped out of school early, but she is very smart. I know Grant is a lawyer. I know that he got some jobs from the developments at the Southeast Peninsula. I know that the position of political leader brings with it certain perks and opportunities to make deals. And if you have no integrity, you may be caught up in corruption.
I asked my friend why is it that Hamilton and Richards are afraid to challenge Grant for the leadership of the Party. He said to me that Hamilton is not afraid of Grant but he is afraid of the other people who wield the power in the party. He also said that Richards is too close to Grant and so he will not mount a challenge. However, if the Sandy Pointers decide to push for the leadership he will have to jump in line or run the risk of being voted out. Sandy Pointers don’t mek joke.
But Grant is one smart cookie. The only person who would have mounted a serious challenge to Grant’s leadership has been sidelined. The brakes were put on Ms. Demming when she was ignored for the senator position even though she was the most popular candidate for the position. If Ms. Demming was chosen she would have been in a great position to launch a campaign for the leadership of the Party. She is capable, charismatic and honest. She would not be caught on a video at the Marriott Hotel taking bribes.
With the Gang of Five and Ms. Demming out of the way, and with the silence of Hamilton and Richards, Grant will remain leader even if he loses the Petition case. He will have it no other way. He must become the next prime minister. Meanwhile, the PAM party continues to suffer and lose all relevance.
