On Monday 2nd October 2006, Pathologist Dr Stephen Jones performed an autopsy on the body of the late Police Sgt Clive Benjamin. Dr Jones reported that his death was caused by haemorrhage and shock secondary to gunshot injuries to the chest and abdomen.
Sgt Benjamin was killed in the line of duty while apprehending a wanted fugitive who had broken into the home of a FrigateBay resident.
Also on Monday 2nd October 2006, Dr Jones performed an autopsy on the body of the late Nigel Langley Sweeny and he reported that death was caused by haemorrhage and shock secondary to gunshot injuries to the chest.
The following persons were arrested and charged between 29th September 2006 and 2nd October 2006;
·On 29-09-06, Miguel Ritchen of Douglas Street, Newtown was charged with the offence of "Fraudulent Conversion" committed on 22nd September 2006.
·29-09-06, Kelvis Matthew of SaddlersVillage was charged with the offence of "Wounding" committed on 26th September 2006. He was later bailed in the sum of $1,000.00 to appear at the Sandy Point Magistrate Court on 3rd October 2006.
·01-10-06, Nigel Mills of ZionVillage, Nevis was charged with the offence of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" to wit cannabis committed on 1st October 2006. He was later bailed in the sum of $5,000.00 to appear at the Charlestown Magistrate Court.
·02-10-06, a seventeen-year-old male juvenile of Newtown was charged with the offence of "Wounding with Intent" by shooting committed on 14th September 2006 at West Street, Newtown.
On the 1st October 2006, officers of the Tabernacle Police District discovered forty (40) dry marijuana plants within an abandoned house at Carty Pasture, Tabernacle. The plants ranged from two (2) to four (4) feet in height. No one has been held in connection with the find and investigations are continuing.
The following person(s) were convicted at the Magistrate Courts;
At the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 29-09-06, Jahno Francis of Newtown who was charged with the offence of "Possession of a Firearm" and "Possession of Ammunition" was sentenced to seven (7) months imprisonment on each charge with sentences to run concurrently.
~~Adz:Right~~At the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 03-10-06, Icilma Francis of New Pond Site pleaded guilty to her charge of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" committed on 28th September 2006. She was convicted and fined $20, 000.00 in three (3) months or in default to serve two (2) months imprisonment with hard labour. The charge against Brian Farrell who was jointly charged with Francis was subsequently withdrawn of her plea.
At the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 03-10-06, Carlo Free of St. Vincent and the Grenadines who was charged with the offence "Unlawful Entry into the Federation" committed on 25th September 2006 was convicted and fined $5, 000.00 in one (1) day or in default to serve twelve (12) months imprisonment with hard labour. He was subsequently deported from the Federation after having paid the fine imposed.
At the Charlestown Magistrate Court on 03-10-06, Michael Amory of Craddock Road who was charged with the offence of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" committed on 31st July 2006 was convicted and fined $1,000.00 in three (3) months or in default to serve one (1) month hard labour.
