~~Adz:Left~~Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 29, 2006): The Black Psychiatrists of America (BPA) will be holding its annual Trans-cultural Conference in St. Kitts and Nevis from November 09 to 12, 2006.
The event is being held under the theme: "The Implications of Trauma and Natural Disaster on the Mental Health of African People" and is open to healthcare professionals and others interested in treatment, health and wellness of those affected by trauma.
The objectives of the BPA Conference pertain specifically to the African diaspora and include discussing the most common mental health conditions in youth and adult populations; identifying the most appropriate psychosocial and biological treatment modality and evaluating the most important areas of research requisite to improve treatment and clinical outcomes.
Other areas of focus includes identifying the educational, economical, cultural and organizational barriers in the mental health systems and delivery of services and demonstrating knowledge of effective interventions for support to mental health consumers displaced due to disasters.
~~Adz:Right~~The BPA Conference takes place at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and delegates are scheduled to arrive from November 09, the day before sessions are scheduled to begin. In addition to working sessions, participants will also be attending a Welcoming Networking reception, a Catamaran ride, Scenic Railway Tour and Awards Banquet.
The mission of the BPA is to address issues affecting the mental health of African Americans and to provide a forum of continuing education for those who provide psychiatric care.
