~~Adz:Left~~Thursday, October 5, 2006-- Political Vibes, a very popular call in program on Nevis's Community radio station Choice FM, played host to Wednesday night's guest, Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry. The weekly radio call-in program creates a forum for discussion of political issues that affect the Nevis community.
Hosted by Abdul Karim Ahmed, Karen Claxton- Amory and special co-host Tessa Howell, Political Vibes gives the listening public an opportunity to air opinions and gather information.
During the evenings programming, The Premier touched on a number of topics such as Electoral Reform which the programs host Abdul Ahmed asked, "Why has nationals living abroad been the main focus for voting in elections in the federation?"
Mr. Parry stated, "The great concern has been that airline tickets are being sent to persons living abroad and in most cases the party in power would be the ones with the greater access to larger amounts of money. One of the major items of the Electoral Reform is to re-evaluate that practice so that the playing field is leveled."
Co- host Tessa Howell asked Mr. Parry, what was the passion that kept him to continue to be leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP)? Mr. Parry answered, " After 14 years of hard struggles, I felt I needed to keep the party going and let Nevisians know that NRP have laid the foundation for Nevis and while other Nevisian political parties have come and gone, NRP will continue to remain a major part of the island."
~~Adz:Right~~Other topics touched on during the evenings program was Teenage pregnancy,NRP's way forward for the people of Nevis, The success story of the Bank of Nevis, Programs for young people in Nevis, and the winning of the last election, but the most intriguing topic of the night was the Newfoundland Development Project, which 600 acres of prime land in the Pinney's area has been sold by the previous administration to foreign persons, who claim they would use the land to develop a 120 room property on Nevis and as part of the deal the previous administration also gave "the investors" 30 years of free concession.
The present Nevis Island administration is presently re-evaluating the situation and seeking to put a new deal on the table that would better benefit the people of Nevis.
