Students of the Gingerland Primary School participate in the morning devotion. |
Charlestown Nevis (October 9, 2006) - As the Gingerland Primary School (GPS) celebrated its 28th birthday earlier today, (October 9), principal and staff of the school launched its 2nd annual Career Awareness Week, during an official opening ceremony at the school's compound.
Under the theme "Career Exploration: Taking the steps to prepare for my career", the ceremony formed part of the school's morning devotion.
Principal, Mrs. Marion Lescott expressed the reason behind the week of activities.
She noted that it was the school's belief that the children could think at an early age of what they wanted to become when they grow up.
"They will be more focused, they will work harder," she said. "The selection of their subjects at school would be influence and when they grow to the age where they are ready to take on a job, they would have acquired the knowledge and skills that are relevant to that particular job."

Principal Education Officer, Mrs Jennifer Hodge to the students: "Never let anyone discourage you" as she declares the week officially opened |
The Principal, who has 32 years experience in the teaching fraternity, prayed for God's guidance during the week and added, "This is a golden opportunity for you this week.
You will be exposed to many careers and I am certain that by the end of the week, you would see one that you would like to pursue as you grow older."
Principal Education Officer and Guest Speaker, Mrs. Jennifer Hodge said that she was extremely delighted to be a part of the ceremony, which she deemed a major and very important event on the school's calendar.
"I am deeply impressed with your decision to expose your children to various careers this week. Creating the environment for the students to explore a variety of career options that will, I am sure, impact on every child even if the outcomes are not readily noticeable.
"The activities planned for this week should serve as a good launching pad for exposure into the thousands of career opportunities open to the 21st century student. I must say how gratified I am to see you as a school, embark on such a venture, even as you utilize the valuable human resource we have available to us here in Nevis," Mrs. Hodge said.
While pointing out to the students that they had the opportunity to change their careers several times throughout their life and to derive equal satisfaction from whatever choices they would make, the Principal Education Officer called on the teachers to train their students to think beyond the one career mode and move with the changing times.
