Basseterre, St. Kitts (October 12, 2006): The St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) debuted its newest information programme on Wednesday using a somewhat unconventional medium to educate the public on government programmes and policies.

The SKNIS Automated Wire will now be available around the clock, on the Government's telephone switchboard system, to persons who are put on hold.

This feature provides brief news updates and public service announcements.

Director of Communications Mahlon Goma said this new initiative is in keeping with the mandate of his office to ensure the public remains informed.

He added that the initiative will be heard by all on-hold callers which sometimes include overseas persons.

This he said was yet another vehicle in keeping with SKNIS" remit in enabling the public to keep abreast of the Federation's activities.

"The feature will be updated regularly to ensure that up-to-the-minute information can be accessed," Goma stressed. He revealed that plans are being made to allow callers to access this feature directly from the switchboard menu options.

~~Adz:Right~~Director Goma has instituted several new programmes during his first six months on the job such as Island Issues, a live radio talk show aired every Tuesday on ZIZ Radio, SKNIS Express, a news brief programme as well as Press Prep, a weekly electronic update on Government activities.
