At the Basseterre Magistrate Court on 10th October 2006, Phillip Francis of Basseterre who was charged with the offence of Building Breaking and Larceny committed between 13th and 16th January 2006, was committed to stand trial at the January 2007 Criminal Assizes.
Also at the said court on the aforementioned date, Miguel Byron of CayonVillage and Tau Charles of Upper Cayon Village were both convicted of drug related offences. Both men were individually charged with the offences of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" and "Cultivation of a Controlled Drug" to wit cannabis committed on 1st September 2006 at Cayon.
Byron pleaded guilty to a charge of "Possession of a Controlled Drug" and was subsequently fined $1,500.00 to be paid in one (1) month or in default to serve three (3) months imprisonment while the second charge of "Cultivation of a Controlled Drug" was withdrawn.
Charles pleaded guilty to the charge of 'Possession of a Controlled Drug" and was subsequently fined $1,000.00 to be paid in one (1) month or in default to serve one (1) month imprisonment while the second charge of "Cultivation of a Controlled Drug" was withdrawn.
At the High Court on 10th October 2006, the verdict was heard in the case of the DPP vs Mark Archibald of LodgeVillage who had been charged with the offence of 'Causing Death by Dangerous Driving" committed on 5th April 2004 at KeysVillage. Archibald pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of "Dangerous Driving" and subsequently convicted and fined $12,000.00 to be paid in eight (8) months or in default to serve two (2) years imprisonment.
~~Adz:Right~~The verdict was also heard in the case of the DPP vs Kemba Swanston of KeysVillage who has been charged with the offences of "Murder" and "Attempted Murder" committed on 2nd June 2003 at keys Village. A jury of his peers unanimously found Swanston guilty on both charges, however sentencing has been postponed until 30th October pending a social inquiry report being presented to the court.
Swanston was jointly charged with four other KeysVillage residents in the Murder of Dennis Trotman and the Attempted Murder of Davin Henry. The four men pleaded guilty to Manslaughter and Attempted Murder at May 2006 Criminal Assizes and were sentenced to serve life imprisonment and ten (10) years imprisonment respectively for their part in the incident.
On 10th October 2006 a fifteen (15) year old male juvenile of Fort Thomas Road, Basseterre was arrested and charged with the offence of "Wounding with Intent" committed on 6th October 2006 at Fort Thomas Road.
