SIR DENNIS BYRON |
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (APRIL 19TH 2004) – Another national of St. Kitts and Nevis has become a permanent judge of the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal for Rwanda.
Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Sir Dennis Byron replaces another Kittitian, Justice Lloyd George Williams, who resigned last month.
United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan appointed Sir Dennis to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) earlier this month after an exchange of letters with the Security Council and General Assembly.
Sir Dennis assumed the post on 8th April and will serve out the remainder of Judge Williams’ term, which expires on 24 May 2007. He will serve in Trial Chamber III.
Born in 1943, Sir Dennis has been a judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court since 1982, becoming the Court’s Chief Justice in 1999.
