    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 17TH 2006 
     - A four-member technical team from the HEART Trust will be in St. Kitts & Nevis to conduct a Competency-based Education and Training (CBET) Sensitisation Session and a Strategic Planning Workshop.
     
    Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Osmond Petty said the workshop to be held from October 23rd to 25th will begin with an Opening Ceremony at the Ocean Terrace Inn on Monday  at 9:00 a.m. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hon. Sam Condor will declare the workshop open.
     
    The HEART Trust team will be led by the Executive Director, Mr. Robert Gregory.
     
    Mr. Petty said that the first day of the Sensitization Session, key stakeholders from various sectors within St. Kitts and Nevis will be introduced to the principles, approaches and methodologies of Competency  based Education and Training.
     
    It will establish an Assessment and Certification framework, address issues relating to Quality Assurance and, generally, address procedural issues relating to developing and delivering CBET programmes.

    On Day 2 and Day 3, the Strategic Planning Workshop will focus on achieving the following outcomes in relation to TVET: Conducting an environmental scan or situational analysis; developing a vision and mission statements; developing outputs; developing verifiable indicators; and identifying means of verification and assumptions relating to TVET in St. Kitts and Nevis.
     
    Last February, the Ministry of Education and Youth signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HEART Trust/ NTA in ~~Adz:Left~~Jamaica to establish a partnership in the implementation of Occupational Standards relating to the introduction of CARICOM-approved Occupational Skill Areas in secondary schools and post-secondary institutions in St. Kitts and Nevis.
     
    "Since then, the Ministry has procured a large quantity of Occupational Standards, Facilitators Guides, Student Manuals and other curricula materials in selected occupational areas," Mr. Petty disclosed.
     
    He said in September, TVET programmes in selected occupational areas at appropriate levels were formally introduced into the curriculum in secondary schools in St. Kitts, at the Advanced Vocational Educational Centre (AVEC) and at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant  College, Division of Technical and Vocational Education.
     
    Delivery of the TVET programmes is expected to reflect a Competency " based Education and Training (CBET) Model.
