Basseterre, St. Kitts (January 07, 2004): Catherine Kimani and Margaret Magugu of Kenya are enjoying the hospitality of St. Kitts and Nevis for the second time as a guest of the Federal Minister with responsibility for culture Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin.

The group first visited St. Kitts in 2001 after meeting Minister Henry-Martin at the Caribbean Expo in London. The minister disclosed that after a brief encounter with the duo at the expo and the review of the information advertised in the tourism magazine “The Visitor” about the island, the sisters moved immediately to initiate plans for a visit.

The minister indicated that hosting the group has allowed her a unique opportunity to learn more about Kenya and herself as a descendant of Africans.

Mrs. Kimani described the people (of the Federation) as “marvelous and noted that there a number of investment opportunities in St. Kitts, where they are looking to strengthen ties.

“There is a lot of potential,” she said identifying the craft and fabric trade as areas targeted for investment.

Mrs. Magugu echoed her sister’s sentiment and added that locals looking to tap into the Kenyan market can take advantage of the avenues being explored by the minister.

The duo showered praise on Minister Henry-Martin, who they affectionately called their sister, for her kindness and fondly recounted the family atmosphere present at the minister’s home, where they enjoyed a traditional Kittitian Christmas dinner.

“We are all family,” the minister stressed when asked about the Kenyan connection. She indicated that there are many benefits to be derived from our friends from the African continent.

Tomorrow, SKNIS will present an in-depth feature on additional opportunities between the two countries.
