Basseterre, St. Kitts (October 19, 2006): Cable and Wireless has renewed its commitment to culture and tradition by being a major sponsor of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival 2006-2007.
During the official launch of Carnival, last week, the telecommunications company presented National Carnival Chairman Gus Williams with its sponsorship package. Williams noted that the company maintains excellent corporate citizenship.
"The community is supporting Cable and Wireless and in return Cable and Wireless is supporting the community as they've always done," he stated. "We at the Carnival Committee are absolutely delighted to once again have Cable and Wireless as the primary (corporate) sponsor for the 2006-2007 Carnival."
Cable and Wireless is also an official sponsor of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) which begins in March. Chairman Williams noted that a number of persons have enquired about packages for carnival and cricket.
"We have had a number of early inquiries from people wanting to book accommodations," he disclosed. "As you know 2007 is the CWC, so I think many people will come for Carnival and extend their stay. By so doing they are getting bargains because if you can book accommodations for that span of time youll get it at a cheaper rate which means it makes economic sense."
St. Kitts and Nevis will host first round matches for the ICC event from March 14 to 24. Defending champions Australia, South Africa, Holland and Scotland will be based here during this time.
